Assignments
Lesson Readings
Twelve sets of articles, including articles from Christian, Muslim, and secular perspectives.
The study guide gives three options for each reading:
- Key Readings - Recommended for all students - 20 pages per lesson located in the book.
- Basic Readings - Required for certificate students - 35 pages per lesson located in the book. (Read both Key and Basic readings.)
- Full Readings - Recommended for students seeking academic credit or preparing to live among Muslims - 45 pages per lesson. (Read Key, Basic and Full readings.) Full Readings are not found in the book, but are online readings. Find the Full Readings.
Online Discussion Forum
Twelve discussion forum postings in which students consider how the course information will change their thinking and actions.
These are not book reports; the student must demonstrate personal incorporation of lessons learned into his or her real life. These are posted weekly to an online class discussion forum. Students are also required to post twelve entries (one per lesson) in the online classroom responding to other students' postings. Go to Class Forums.
Field Trip(s)
One or two field trips to local mosques to witness Muslim worship and prayer as scheduled by your course coordinator during the class.
Field trip participation will be graded through an extra discussion forum posting and replies to other students' postings on a topic of interest to you related to the field trip. Go to Class Forums to submit your assignment.
Meeting with a Muslim
Two personal, individual, relational meetings with a Muslim.
Like the field trip(s), the two meetings with a Muslim will be graded through extra discussion forum postings and replies online. Go to Class Forums to submit your assignment.
Quizzes
Four quizzes that require thinking and processing of course learning.
Each quiz contains four questions that require considerable thought and integration but little writing. Go to Quizzes to complete your quiz assignments.
Exam
An oral report of personal applications stemming from the class.
This assignment is often substituted in lieu of a formal examination and/or paper. This report may be presented to the class or to the course coordinator.
Syllabus
Each academic syllabus differs in its requirements. Some schools insist upon a formal exam and/or a paper and may also assign additional reading. Please check the syllabus given to you for the type of credit and the school from which you are obtaining credit. It will contain the most accurate information about your assignments.
